This research unit aims to examine the ecological drivers that have an impact on changes in biodiversity in space and time. The research work which, for the most part, is focused on the analysis of ecological data and spatial modelling, is essential in order to better understand the relationship between biodiversity loss and changes in the biological complexity of ecosystems.

Research activity in the area of ecology is carried out in collaboration with local organizations that are in charge of managing natural resources in Trentino, to ensure that biodiversity monitoring methodologies and spatial models designed on a regional and global scale can be used on a local scale too.
