There is great interest, in the agricultural sector, to understand plant adaptation mechanisms to specific environmental conditions and how the plasticity of plant varieties responds to sudden changes. Progress in this field will improve the ability to predict plant response to climate change and will help develop new crop management and improvement strategies.

Understanding and controlling gene expression in agriculturally-relevant areas and integrating these information with cross-sector studies is fundamental to develop resilient and sustainable agri-food systems. The research unit, through genetic variability analysis, investigates the genetic basis of stress tolerances in the genus Vitis and the plant varieties that increase the value of fruit-bearing plants.
