Our research group focuses on advancing viticulture and olive growing through innovative, climate-smart approaches aimed at enhancing the sustainability of agricultural systems under climate change, with a strong focus on production quality.
Our research explores the physiological and genetic mechanisms that govern plant responses and adaptation to environmental stresses, including drought, heat, and other climate-related constraints.
This knowledge underpins the development of effective management strategies to reduce the impacts of climate change on vineyards and olive groves.
By integrating field experimentation, controlled-environment studies, and interdisciplinary methodologies, the group generates applied knowledge that can be translated into practical solutions for growers and breeders.
Research lines:
- Grapevine ecophysiology and innovative vineyard management strategies;
- Mechanisms of plant adaptation and genetic control of responses to water and temperature stress;
- Phenotypic variation of grapevine varieties and clones, including multi-omic characterization of somatic variants;
- Scion–rootstock interactions and their effects on plant performance and stress resilience;
- Development and application of mid- to high-throughput phenotyping approaches;
