BioTech4PestControl

The research project aiming to develop and validate eco-friendly phytosanitary products

Research & Analysis

A novel and ambitious project has officially launched at the Center Agriculture Food Environment (C3A) as part of the PhD program in Agri-Food and Environmental Sciences.

BioTech4PestControl is a research initiative focused on developing and validating eco-friendly plant protection products. The goal is to replace, whenever possible, synthetic chemical pesticides used to control gray mold (Botrytis cinerea) and downy mildew in grapevines.

Over the next three years, PhD student Alessio Martini will lead the efforts to develop innovative solutions for more sustainable plant protection.

The project, which involves Professor Gerardo Puopolo, is co-funded by Numinous Srl, directed by Dr. Giovanni Amenta. It serves as a concrete example of how collaboration between academia and industry can transform innovative ideas into real-world applications.

This synergy highlights the value of the PhD program as a bridge between the university and the corporate world, capable of generating innovation and supporting practical solutions for the agricultural sector. It is a model that can truly make a difference for the future of agriculture and biotechnological innovation.
