Best Poster Award for Under-35s at the 11th CONAVI 2026
On the occasion of the XI CONAVI 2026 – National Viticulture Conference, PhD student Stefano Zanoni received the award for Best Scientific Poster Under 35 for his work entitled "Kaolin and zeolite: simple reflective films or tools for metabolic modulation?". The research was developed under the supervision of Professors Michele Faralli and Massimo Bertamini, and in collaboration with Dr. Nick Dokoozlian and Dr. Pietro Previtali from the Winegrowing Research Department of E. & J. GALLO Winery.
The study analyzes the role of kaolin and zeolite in viticulture, evaluating not only their ability to mitigate the effects of environmental stress on grapevines through their reflective properties, but also their potential to modulate physiological and metabolic responses. A central element of the work is the proposal of a mechanism of action for these compounds which has not yet been described in scientific literature. The results expand current knowledge on the use of these sustainable agronomic strategies, which are increasingly relevant in the context of climate change.
This recognition, awarded within one of the main scientific conferences dedicated to Italian viticulture, highlights the contribution of the younger generation to the development of innovative solutions for the sector.
The work is dedicated to the memory of Professor Massimo Bertamini, who passed away on May 9, 2026, and who guided and supported this research journey with passion, expertise, and scientific rigor. His dedication to education and research remains a cornerstone for the C3A viticulture group and the entire scientific community.
